SwimMac Carolina at Charlotte Latin is a great resource for homeschool parents and competitive swimmers. They offer three different levels for ages 3-18. It convenient for families of multiple swimmers. The classes also fulfills PE requirements for North Carolina.
Below is a brief summary of each level.
Level 1: Safety
- Children learn water acclimation skills and beginning strokes
- Swimmer to coach ratio of 5:1
- Classes meet two days per week for 30 minutes
Level 2: Introduction to Competitive Technique
- Children learn to swim 25 yards freestyle, 25 years backstroke, 25 yards breaststroke, and 25 yards of dolphin roll
- Classes meet two days per week for 45 minutes
Level 3: Advanced Strokes/Conditioning
- Children learn to swim 100 IM
- Dives from the blocks
- Classes meet two days per week for 1 hour and 15 minutes.
Your homeschooler will learn swim safety, competitive techniques, and advanced strokes/conditioning. They will develop skills needed to earn Boy Scouts Swimmer Merit Badge and Girl Scouts programs such as ShapeUP! These classes fulfill PE requirements for the state of North Carolina.
At the end of the swim semester, parents and families are encourage to bring snacks for the swimmers. They are invited on deck, as well, to watch their little ones “show off” what they’ve learn and watch them compete in a mini-meet.

First, your child will receive a homeschooler’s participation ribbon. The event and times of will be recorded on the back of the ribbon.
Second, you will receive a progress evaluation skills sheet. This will include all the skills your child is learning and what they actually accomplished.
Finally, when the semester ends, I like to make gifts for the coaches! This year I kept it simple. I perused Pinterest for ideas and created this little thank you note. I attached a Target gift card and let my son write in his name. Simple and cute! Don’t you think?
