Herbs and The 5 Senses

Posted on June 12, 2019June 12, 2019 by Laddie

This morning we attended the free kids class series: Herbs and The 5 Senses at Pike’s Nurseries. The boys invited their Nana and a friend to come along as well.

First, the instructor read Joanna Gaines’ We are the Gardeners book. The book teaches kids not to give up through their gardening mistakes, faults, errors, etc. Basically, it’s a life lesson in and outside of the garden. The book is also filled with lovely pictures as well. It’s so cute! This would make a great gift for any child and you could include a plant or herb to go along with it.

Afterwards, the kids learned all about various herbs such has lamb’s ear, rosemary, mint, lavender, and dill. They even got a chance to touch and taste some of the herbs.

Finally, they all got to make their own lotion to take home. It was quite simple. Dermasil lotion was used for the foundation. The kids had two choices: eucalyptus or lavender-lemongrass essential oils. The staff team assisted in dropping 2 drops of the essential oils into their prepared container. The kids stirred the oils into the lotion and voila, it’s that simple and ready to use!

At the end of class, the instructors let the adults pick out soap made with herbs and a 10% off coupon to use in the store. My mother-in-law purchased a small pot of lamb’s ear and a purple lantana. I picked up a package of Jack Be Little pumpkin seeds and Blue Lake 274 bean bush seeds.

Everyone is excited about next week’s free kids class series on seeds. We hope to see you there. Don’t forget to register!

Laddie
